Maya Bankovic is a Toronto-based cinematographer. Her diverse body of work ranges from unobtrusive and emotionally sensitive in the documentary realm to vibrant and bold in her narrative and commercial work.


Recent credits include Three Walls (Hot Docs, Oberhausen, Silverdocs 11), The Pedestrian Jar (TIFF 11), Pathways (TIFF 11) and the Bravo!FACT dance film Slip, for which she won the 2010 Kodak Award for Best Cinematography at the Canadian Film Centre’s Worldwide Short Film Festival. She has also recently completed photography on a retrospective documentary for Hariri Pontarini Architects.


Recent commercial clients include Saatchi & Saatchi (the @Random project), Publicis, UPS, Universal Music, Samsung and Facebook.


Maya works with Film, Digital Video, High Definition and new media formats in her ongoing exploration of the craft. Her sharp creative instincts and wide range of experience guide her aesthetic, but above all she works closely with her collaborators to define a visual language and an artistic approach that will best serve every story she photographs.


She is currently an Associate member of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers.
